On September 2nd, it will be seven years since our family’s lives changed forever when my husband, Jesus, suffered a massive stroke. Before his stroke, Jesus worked full-time so that I could stay home and care for our two sons, who are both diagnosed with autism.
“Jesus underwent four brain surgeries in four months in 2019. He lost movement on the left side of his body and experiences left-side neglect. Since then, our family has been in survival mode. Between the financial hardship and the challenges of managing care for my family, I struggled to find a way for us to feel stable and secure.”
Then, in 2025, we were able to apply to move into a new low-income housing building through Southern California Housing. Our family was approved, and we moved in at the end of 2025. Our lives have changed so much for the better—not only financially, but also because our home includes ADA accommodations that make our daily lives smoother. Now, my husband can focus on his recovery, and I can focus on my sons’ education and care management without worrying about how we will make it through each month. Thank you so much for helping our family.
